Gone are the days when you needed your own piece of land only for growing potatoes and other “winter stocks”: they went to the dacha every weekend and after work only to work hard there. Today, from many young people you can hear that they don’t need a summer cottage at all, let the older generation “hobble” on the beds.
But who said that their land is intended only for labor in sweat? She must bring joy!
We suggest that you consider the option of a device on your allotment of a dart-platform with jumps - places for extreme relaxation and cycling.
What is dert and why are jumps needed
Dirt (dirt) in translation from English - the earth or dirt. The same word designates an earthen track with jumps for practicing extreme cycling with mandatory jumps - “jumping”.
Dert jumping is a spectacular sport (some jumps with turns are worth it!) And a very democratic sport, it is available to everyone who has a bicycle. Of course, special bikes are desirable for the professional level, but at the initial stage any available iron horse is suitable. Trampolines, on which tricks are performed, are also not a problem to find - you can do them yourself.
Dig from here to lunch. Do-it-yourself springboards for derth
To equip the dart track, it is enough:
- available building materials: sand, clay, logs, boards, etc.,
- simple tools: mainly shovels of various kinds, axes, saws, carts for the removal of dug up land and garbage,
- basic building skills: dig a hole, install piles, tamp the ground, etc.
At the preparation stage, analyze:
- Is the chosen place convenient for extreme sports? Would you bother your neighbors. Maybe it’s worth refining some wasteland under your sack? So you will kill two birds with one stone: do not disturb anyone while playing sports, and do a useful job - turn an unnecessary playground into a sports one.
- What are the "source data" of your site. What kind of ski jumps is it most suitable for? It’s much easier not to dig it all up, but to use the features of the natural landscape. In the lowlands - to land, from the hills - to take off. If the site is flat, then calculate: how much land will be required for embankments and from whom to purchase it.
- What Dirt Jumps Do You Want and, most importantly, you can do: just to learn how to jump on a bicycle or to seriously train, one you will have a springboard or several, what size each?
It is useful to consult with professionals, people who have long been involved in extreme cycling. Do not hesitate to ask questions about arranging dertha on thematic resources on the Internet, take an interest “live” with your friends jumpers, if you can, bring them to your place. Athletes are usually interested in developing the business they are involved in, so they will not be sorry to give recommendations specifically for your situation.
From the camel to the table: types of diving boards
There are three main types of ski jumps; more complex structures can already be created on their basis.
Low (up to 50 cm) and short (about 1.5 m) earthen hill.
How to build.
Option 1. If there are natural irregularities in the selected area, you can simply bring them to mind: dig holes, add mounds a little.
Option 2 You take two logs, fix them at the right distance from each other (one should be higher by half a meter for the races) and fill it with earth - you get the right slide.
In both cases, the ground must be well tampered so as not to fall through when driving. This is done with shovels or just legs.
The piece of furniture this design resembles very distantly, rather a trapezoid. An athlete enters it and, as a rule, jumps, lands on a horizontal surface, and then descends from it. There are huge springboards, tables, beginners should focus on the size of 70 cm in height and 2.5 m in length of a flat surface.
How to build.
Option 1. You will need: land in large quantities (the embankment is quite high), construction rubbish - logs, pipes, etc. Based on the latter, a kind of frame is made, it is covered with earth. The structure is very compacted to become strong enough, filled with water and left for some time for fixing.
Option 2 Arrival (departure) on a trapezoidal springboard is knocked together from boards and plywood. Wooden sorties with a hard, flat surface are more convenient for practicing bike tricks, especially for beginners.
This springboard is somewhat reminiscent of a two-humped camel. Essentially the same table, but without a flat part, two slides instead. Estimated length - about 7 m, the height of the slides - from 1.5 m, one may be higher. The size of the pit between the "humps" is about 2.5 m. Professional derts are much larger.
Although the “camel” is considered the base springboard, it is the most traumatic hazard, if the cyclist lands on the “table” even in the event of an unsuccessful jump, it is much more difficult to survive between the two “humps”.
How to build.
You make a springboard “table” from the ground and dig a hole in place of the horizontal part.
What land - such and dert
The ideal soil for dart-jumps is clay. It is easy to work with it, to give the desired configuration, it dries quickly, hardens and holds its shape for a long time (provided that you ride, constantly tamp your tart and fill it with water). Sandy will drive under the wheels, if you have one on your site, we recommend immediately thinking about acquiring land for the construction of ski jumps. Hard - you are tormented by digging, but if there is nothing else, you can work with it.
Tips for arranging and operating the darts
- Build darts for derth at a distance from each other so that, landing from one, not to be injured, accidentally flying into another.
- Do not strive to make huge professional-grade springboards right away. Do you know how to ride them? It’s better to start small, hone your skills, and at the same time increase your jumps.
- The earthen structure, even if it is supported on the frame, needs constant adjustment, after each workout, ram it again, if necessary, then water your ski jumps. You can use them immediately (but by no means before!) After drying.
- Water, although necessary for the care of earthen derts, but do not pour it excessively, otherwise you will get dirt in the literal sense. The design should become slightly wet, as if sticking together.
The most important thing - no matter how professional the ski jumps would turn out, without the skill of the athletes it is just an earthen roller coaster. Therefore train! And don’t forget to wear a helmet.
Types of Springboards
Dert, that is, the ski jumps themselves, can conditionally be divided into two types.
First type - the so-called "camel". In other words, it is a springboard, which consists of two separate parts - departure and landing. In this case, the extreme departure point is usually below the touchdown point.
Departure, as a rule, is made from the ground, but recently wooden ones have also become more common.
Second type - Springboard called "table". In fact, this is a regular springboard, which has a flat surface between departure and landing.
It is intended more for beginners, as well as for those who learn new tricks, because in case of an unsuccessful jump, a fall on the “table” will be safer than on a “torn” derth.
Dirt Jumping Bikes
Two types of bicycles are used for ski jumping from the ground: BMX and MTB.
Bmxs (small bicycles with 20-inch wheels) designed for this discipline have a longer frame than in street or park styles. In addition, riders often install wide seats on them to make the landing softer, and also to make it more convenient for the bike to be clamped with its feet during the stunt.
Brakes are installed on the rear wheel of the bicycle, since derts grow markedly every year and the use of brakes is simply necessary here.
Despite the fact that the BMX is small and, it would seem, it is much easier for them to control in the air, it is still very unstable. Therefore, those who ride such bicycles in the discipline of dert are not so many.
Most dert riders still prefer MTB. MTB (Eng. Mountain bike) - a bike designed for off-road riding. MTV for derts at first glance is very similar to MTV for other disciplines, but this is not entirely true.
In fact, the frame of such a bike is slightly smaller than that of its other brothers, the size of the wheels is 24-26 inches, and the transmission is only one.
24-inch wheels are considered more durable and make the bike a little lighter, and they also respond better to cornering. 26-inch wheels are more stable at high speeds and make the bike base higher, which allows you not to be afraid to hook the root or stump. In addition, for 26-inch wheels, the choice of tires is much wider than for 24-inch ones.
A distinctive feature of the frame can also be called a long upper tube (from the steering column to the seatpost). Due to this, the bike is more stable when jumping and landing and more agile when performing tricks.
As for the brakes, they are simply necessary for a beginner, but the type and price do not play a special role. Even the most ordinary and cheap ones will do, because experienced riders ride without them at all.
If you still decide to do this type of extreme cycling, then be sure to take care of protection. The most important accessories of a rider dert are a helmet, gloves, knee and lower leg protection.
And finally, remember: all jumps only from the side look simple. In fact, this is a very dangerous activity that requires high concentration and regular practice.
First of all, you need to acquire land - you can dig it with a bayonet shovel, or bring it by truck. It will take a lot of land - a good springboard is demanding on this resource.
Note that the springboard for dermat jumping is called "camel". It consists of a departure and a landing, which are two high bumps resembling a camel hump. For each of these bumps, up to one truck of land may be required, but if a springboard for dermat jumping is being built for a novice cyclist, then land will, of course, be required much less.
When building a springboard, the ground must be scattered with rhinestones into two bumps in a distance from each other at a distance of about two meters. In this case, the earth, during the process of folding, you need to constantly tamp. Oh yeah, and one more thing, don’t think in Dirt Jumping Springboard to lay small stones - they certainly will help the cyclist save time and land for construction, but over time these stones will come out of the springboard, making it completely unsuitable for jumping construction.
After all, it should be remembered that it is very, very painful to fall on stones, so we will get by with only one clay soil.
After you have managed to pile two heaps of land, you can proceed to the second stage of the construction of springboards for dermat jumping - leveling the springboard and landing. You need to make them cool enough. Dirt Jumping Springboardshould throw up and quite a bit forward, and not vice versa.
At the same time, one should take into account such an important aspect as the ratio of departure heights and landing itself. Landing should be higher than the departure of the springboard - this is a very important aspect of safety and creating convenience for the jump itself.
During the construction of a camel, water can also be used. Water allows the dart jumping springboard to better grasp, become a much stronger and more reliable structure. In addition, in order to make the structure even more reliable, after landing, after all tamping, you can put a carpet - it will significantly reduce the load on the clay and extend the life of your springboard.
Well, at the conclusion of the construction, let your dermat jumping springboard dry and grow stronger, if you start jumping immediately, you risk making it unusable on the first day of his life.
