Configure redirection in Outlook

This article describes an easy way to set up forwarding all incoming messages in Outlook 2010 from one email address to another. For example, you are going on vacation, and another employee with your email address will replace you. It is necessary that all incoming messages addressed to you are forwarded to his inbox.

To set up call forwarding, start Outlook. Select tab File⇒Information. The following window will open:

Create a redirect rule

Next, click on "Manage rules and alerts", after which a new window will open:

Rules and Alerts Window

In this window, click on the button "New". Then it will open The Rules Wizard. In it we find a section "Start with a blank message", And choose “Applying the rule to messages I received” and press the button "Further".

Rules Wizard Window

In the next window, check the box next to “Addressed to me” and click "Further".

Selection window

In a new window, we choose to whom and how messages will be forwarded. Check the box next to Forward to. In the field for changing the description of the rule, click on « ».

A window for choosing what to do with the message

A window will open where you should select the addressee to whom all incoming messages will be forwarded and click "Further".

Set up call forwarding in a simple way

Let's start setting up call forwarding using an example that is simpler and more understandable for most users.

So, let's go to the “File” menu and click on the “Account Settings” button. In the list, select the item of the same name.

Before us opens a window with a list of accounts.

Here you need to select the desired entry and click on the “Change” button.

Now, in a new window, we find the “Other Settings” button and click on it.

The final action will be to specify the email address that will be used for responses. It is indicated in the "Address for reply" field on the "General" tab.

Alternative way

A more complicated way to set up call forwarding is to create an appropriate rule.

To create a new rule, go to the "File" menu and click on the "Manage Rules and Alerts" button.

Now create a new rule by clicking on the “New” button.

Next, in the "Start with an empty rule" section of the templates, select the "Apply the rule to messages I received" item and proceed to the next step with the "Next" button.

In this horse, it is necessary to note the conditions under which the created rule will work.

The list of conditions is quite large, so carefully read all and mark the necessary ones.

For example, if you want to forward letters from specific recipients, then in this case, check the “from” box. Further, in the lower part of the window, click on the link of the same name and select the necessary recipients from the address book.

As soon as all necessary conditions are checked and configured, we proceed to the next step by clicking on the “Next” button.

Here you need to select an action. Since we are setting up a rule for forwarding messages, the appropriate action would be “forward to.”

In the lower part of the window, click on the link and select the address (or addresses) to which the letter will be forwarded.

Actually, on this you can finish the rule setting by clicking on the “Finish” button.

If you move on, then the next step in setting up the rule will be to indicate exceptions for which the created rule will not work.

As in other cases, here it is necessary to choose the conditions for exclusion from the proposed list.

By clicking on the “Next” button, we proceed to the final stage of configuration. Enter the name of the rule here. You can check the box “Execute this rule for messages that are already in the inbox” if you want to forward messages that are already received.

Now you can click Finish.

To summarize, we note once again that setting up call forwarding in Outlook 2010 can be done in two different ways. It remains for you to determine a more understandable and suitable for yourself.

If you are a more experienced user, then use the rule settings, because in this case you can more flexibly configure the forwarding to your needs.
